What happened at the
Grand Opening?
After two and half years of vision, planning, preparation and prayer, Ocean Community Christian Church (affectionately called OC3) had her Grand Opening on Sunday, January 10th at the Westerly Middle School. We had 81 people show up as we worshiped the Lord, heard the Word of God and enjoyed coffee and goodies in the Ocean Cafe! Pastor Steve preached an inspiring message about how to have a successful Fresh Start and the people seemed genuinely encouraged.
Besides the great spiritual celebration, we gave away a FREE Hershey's Bar to every child from 3-12 years old. We also gave away a FREE BIKE to a little girl named Cheyenne, a FREE iPOD NANO to a teenager named Arthur and DINNER for TWO at the Steak Loft in Mystic to a couple named Phil and Cynthia...what fun! Pastor Steve also threw multiple OC3 tee-shirts and hats into the congregation during the drawings! This is clearly not your typical conventional church!
After a bit of controversy about us meeting in the Middle School (*see link below to The Westerly Sun newspaper articles), we, along with the Westerly School District, applied for and received a special use permit from the town zoning committee. This insured that our services would continue there at the Middle School until further notice. We are grateful for this opportunity!
We are presently renovation a store front in the OCean Plaza at 62 Franklin Street in Westerly (the old DMV Building). We hope to have our first service there on Sunday, July 4th! (See the "NEW BUILDING" page for photos and details)
All of our services are now held in the Ocean Plaza at 62 Franklin Street at 10 a.m. just south of the intersection of Routes 78 and 1 in Westerly, Rhode Island
